Justice-Involved Veterans & Social Work: A Resource Dependence Theory Perspective

The salience of justice-involved military veterans endures as a pervasive social problem in the United States America (USA). Since 1980’s percentages Justice-Involved Veterans (JIV) have varied from reduction Vietnam to increasing numbers Global War on Terror (GWOT) (Bureau Justice Statistics Report, 2015). In response, there has been proliferation magistrate diversion, correctional specialty units, Treatment Courts (VTC) and programming for JIV. Much progress is due concerted identification organizational sharing resources. USA Department Affairs (VA), courts, corrections non-profit organizations (NPO) provide valuable service our men women remediate JIV needs. Social work plays at critical practice areas penal, VA NPO systems USA. population are examined through lens practice, resource dependence theory (RDT), case example future direction. examination highlights importance internal external resources partnerships meet goals psycho-social problems.
